ABOUT

MASHA

Masha Micaelov is a Judaica artist brought up in Russia in an artistic family. Her father is a theatre director and her grandfather a poet. At the age of 12, she saw the downfall of Soviet Union, and experienced the spirit of freedom.

Initially she went to art school in Russia itself, where she mastered the technicalities and the discipline of art. This would be her professional strength.

At the age of 19 she immigrated to Israel taking part in a special program for young talented artists. During her first visit to Jerusalem, she fell in love with the city and it became her residence, spiritual and artistic home.

She was accepted into Israels’ prestigious Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. She learned Hebrew, made new friends, met and mingled with students of different cultures and backgrounds and much more than in the Soviet art school, she was able to discover her own creative side and inner spirituality.

Masha settled down in Jerusalem, where she has lived ever since with her husband and little girl.

For Masha the Holy City of Jerusalem with its ancient history, multifaceted culture and landscape is the perfect place to explore and find her inner spirituality and artistic expression.

The light of Jerusalem for Masha is both spiritual and physical, and enables her to create works full of light, color and optimism together with depth and meaning. The layers of Jerusalem enable endless discovery of meaning and artistic expressions.

Hasidim and other spiritual people of Jerusalem are fascinating living subjects for her study of the humanity of her city. Their exteriority merges with their interiority into shapes, movement and dance that reflects ancient yet eternal living soulfulness.

The emphasis in her art is on love, happiness and joy and she believes that these are the gates to the divine.

Jerusalem is a beautiful dream come true for Masha portrayed in her paintings reflecting – life of Jerusalem, light of Jerusalem, layers of history, love for different people, synergy with spirituality and most significantly – TRANSFORMATION.
